Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will (1) publish figures showing the(a) average earnings, (b) average gross hours and (c) average overtime hours for (i) male, (ii) female and (iii) all workers in full-time employment in each of the Scottish regions and islands area for each year from 1979 to 1990, inclusive;

(2) publish figures showing (a) average earnings, (b) average gross hours and (c) average overtime hours for (i) male, (ii) female and (iii) all workers in full-time employment in Scotland for each year from 1979 to 1990, inclusive.

The available information is given for 1990 in the table below. Since such a large volume of information has been requested, I will write to the hon. Member giving the equivalent information for each year from 1979 to 1989 inclusive. A copy of the letter will be placed in the Library.

(2) publish figures showing the distribution of earnings in each Scottish region and islands area for (i) all, (ii) male and (iii) female full-time workers earning (a) median, (b) the point below which the lowest 10 per cent of workers fall and (c) the point above which the highest 10 per cent. fall, for each year beween 1979 and 1990, inclusive.
