HC Deb 26 April 1991 vol 189 c586W
Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he advises local education authorities and school governing bodies to consider as a relevant consideration any inspector's report on a shortlisted candidate for appointment as a head teacher.

Mr. Eggar

My right hon. and learned Friend has not issued formal guidance on procedures to be adopted by local education authorities and governing bodies when selecting head teachers. This is a matter for the individual governing bodies and LEAs concerned. However, the Department has commissioned a school governor training package which gives guidance on good practice in making staff appointments, including the use of references.
