To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science using the latest figures, if he will show, for each English county, what proportion of standard spending assessment for education is being spent and what proportion of the education budget is being retained for administration, in rank order.

Mr. Fallon

The latest available figures showing the amount that each shire county authority budgeted to spend on education compared with the education element of their standard spending assessment in 1990–91 are given in the following table. Information about the proportion of the education budget that each authority retains for administration is not held centrally.
