To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many citizens of(a) New Zealand, (b) Australia and (c) Canada were admitted to the United Kingdom on two-year working visas in each year from 1979 to 1990; and how many in each year were extended to three years.

[holding answer 8 April 1991]: Reliable figures of working holidaymaker admissions are available only from I May 1990. The numbers admitted between 1 May and 31 December 1990 are given in the following table. Under the immigration rules, the maximum stay permitted for working holidaymakers is two years.
