HC Deb 25 April 1991 vol 189 c506W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what initiatives he intends to take to encourage the teaching of the works of Shakespeare in schools.

Mr. Eggar

The national curriculum for English specifically requires schools to introduce all pupils aged 11 to 16 to some of the works of Shakespeare. This will extend the opportunities for pupils to study and appreciate Shakespeare's plays.
