To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if any courses in the arts are offered to prisoners.

Mrs. Rumbold

Yes. Visual arts and crafts, literature, music, film and video and drama and dance activities are all carried out in prisons. The Home Office has also funded with the Arts Council of Great Britain a recent research project into arts activities in prison. I shall be placing in the Library copies of this report and an accompanying directory of arts activities in prisons.
