HC Deb 25 April 1991 vol 189 c524W
Mr. Straw

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) when contracts for the construction of the Blackburn to M6/M6 1 section of the M65 will be let; when work will start; and when it is due to be completed; (2) if he will make a statement as to any outstanding legal or public expenditure processes which will have to be completed before contracts for the Blackburn to M6/M61 section of the M65 are let.

Mr. Chope

The route of the new motorway is fixed. Proposals for the consequential alterations to other highways and means of access were published last month. We expect to publish the Order for compulsory purchase of land this summer. A period will be allowed for objections and comment. A public inquiry will be necessary if there are objections.

Subject to the successful outcome of any inquiry and the availability of funds work could start in Spring 1993. The new road will take three years to build.
