HC Deb 25 April 1991 vol 189 c522W
Mr. Jopling

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the extent to which the recent roadworks at the M6 Farleton interchange and on the connecting Kendal link road were carried out without avoidable disruption to traffic flows.

Mr. Chope

A number of different maintenance activities were identified as essential at the interchange. An assessment showed that adopting a road closure option which lasted three weeks and enabled all the works to be completed, was preferable to a series of road closures, lane closures and contraflows over nine months. The traffic management arrangements adopted were considered the most appropriate for the safe and efficient progress of the works with the least disruption to road users. The proposals were extensively publicised.
