To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what is the current level of additional allowances paid to RAF personnel at Dhahran;

(2) what changes have occurred to the additional allowances paid to RAF personnel at Dhahran in the last six months;

(3) if he will provide details of all the additional allowances that are currently being paid to service personnel in the Gulf region; and what changes have occurred to those allowances in the last six months.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his current estimate of the total cost arising from British military involvement in the Gulf.

The latest estimate for the additional defence costs, to be spread over several years, is that they are expected to be of the order of £2.5 billion.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will provide his latest estimate of the cost of military equipment lost and damaged during the Gulf crisis.

The value of major equipments lost and munitions consumed in the conflict and in associated training is currently assessed as approaching £450 million.
