From records held, out of 397,200 teachers in full-time service in local authority-maintained nursery, primary and secondary schools—England and Wales, March 1988—1,300 were trained outside the United Kingdom. Details of the countries in which they were trained are not readily available. The country in which they were trained is not necessarily their country of origin.
