To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has on the average lengths of time that individuals are unemployed; and whether this varies as between different levels of income before and after the period of unemployment.

In January 1991, the latest date for which information is available, the median duration of unemployment in the United Kingdom was 21.7 weeks. Information relating to income is not available.
