HC Deb 23 April 1991 vol 189 c405W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on oil fire-related research in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Alan Howarth

The Science and Engineering Council is currently supporting 17 projects concerned with the controlled combustion of oil, at a total cost of some £2 million. In addition, the Natural Environment Research Council is undertaking much work on atmospheric pollution, a significant percentage of which is on pollutants resulting from fossil fuel combustion and their effects on the environment.
