HC Deb 23 April 1991 vol 189 c371W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many cases of BSE have been identified to date in 1991; what is the trend; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hanley

There have been 50 confirmed BSE cases in Northern Ireland in 1991 to date. Incidence of the disease continues to increase and is expected to do so for some time until the ban on feeding of ruminant-derived protein takes effect.
