HC Deb 22 April 1991 vol 189 c358W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what measures are currently being examined in order to impose and extend the controls on the import of species which are unlikely to survive in captivity.

Mr. Baldry

Discussions are taking place in the European Community on a proposed regulation to improve and extend the controls on trade in wildlife. This includes provisions that would enable restrictions to be imposed on the import of species which are unlikely to survive shipment or captivity. A draft of the regulation is expected to be published for consultation early in the summer.
