HC Deb 22 April 1991 vol 189 c296W
Mr. Devlin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations have been made to him by Stockton borough council concerning the extension of a ban on drinking in public places to Yarm and Thornaby.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

In March, Stockton-on-Tees borough council applied to renew its existing byelaws for prohibiting the consumption of intoxicating liquor in the same areas which were designated during the two-year experimental period. Officials wrote to the council on 26 March, giving provisional approval to the byelaws. We have not received any proposals to extend the byelaws to additional areas, but we understand that the council is considering making such an application at a later date.
