HC Deb 22 April 1991 vol 189 cc341-2W
Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people have been killed in police pursuits in Scotland(a) excluding and (b) including police officers in each of the last five years.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 19 April 1991]: Figures have been collected centrally only for the past four years. Since 1987 there have been six deaths—four in 1987, one in 1988, one in 1989 and none in 1990. All arose from incidents where a police vehicle was in direct or indirect pursuit of a fleeing suspect vehicle, or responding to an emergency call; none of those killed was a police officer.
