To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many manufacturing jobs have been lost in Scotland in each year since 1989.

In December 1990, the latest available date, there were 401,100 employees in employment in manufacturing in Scotland. This represents a small fall of 1,300 (0.3 per cent.) compared with December 1989. Over the same period the number of manufacturing employees in Great Britain fell by 130,000 (2.5 per cent.).
