To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what further steps are being taken to improve the conditions of animals who are sent to the continent as live exports; and if he will make a statement.

Discussions are continuing on Commission proposals for a new Community regulation on protection of animals during transport. The Government are pressing for the adoption of high welfare standards for all transport of animals in the Community.
