HL Deb 18 April 1991 vol 527 c91WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether any part of the coalition war plan had the code name "Hail Mary"?

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (The Earl of Arran):

No. I understand that during a briefing on 27th February 1991 General Schwarzkopf described the strategy for the allied ground campaign as similar to the manoeuvre in American football known as the "Hail Mary".
