To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many persons were employed in the non-industrial civil service in each district council area, as at 1 April in each year from 1985 to 1991.

Dr. Mawhinney

[holding answer 15 April 1991]: The information relating to the Northern Ireland civil service is as follows:

1 These figures exclude 82 staff in 1985 and 72 staff in 1986 who were employed in the probation service. Staff working for the newly created probation board for Northern Ireland were excluded from the Northern Ireland civil service figures from 1987 onwards.
