The EC Commission's latest preliminary forecast for the year ending 30 September 1991 put production from sugar grown within the Community at 15.9 million tonnes. Additionally, the Community is forecast to import some 1.5 million tonnes from African, Caribbean and Pacific and other countries, most of which is raw sugar for refining. EC consumption of sugar from all sources is estimated at 11.8 million tonnes.
