§ Mr. BaldryLocal authorities can make byelaws under section 76 of the Public Health Act 1961 requiring engines of all seaside pleasure boats, including water ski vessels and ski-mobiles, to be fitted with silencers. Local authorities can also serve an abatement notice on a person responsible for a statutory nuisance, including noise, under section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. An individual aggrieved by noise can apply direct to a magistrates court to make an abatement order where a statutory nuisance occurs or is likely to recur, under section 82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The Department keeps no statistics about the control of nuisance caused by operators of waterborne jet ski machines.
