What proportion of the 12.4 gigawatt combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) generating station projects for which Section 36 planning consents under the Electricity Act 1989 have been given or are being considered is known to be sufficiently financed.
§ Lord Cavendish of Furness:No such information is furnished in connection with a Section 36 planning consent application. A prospective generator does, however, also need to consider any licensing requirements for his project. In applying for any associated generation licence an applicant will be required to furnish financial details to the Director General of Electricity Supply, who, under the regime we have established, will license new entrants. It will be for him to assess the merits of such applications and determine whether it would be appropriate to grant a licence to generate electricity.
