HC Deb 31 October 1990 vol 178 c536W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects the bust of Keir Hardie to be transferred from under a desk to the plinth it normally occupies in the Lower Waiting Hall adjacent to Central Lobby; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

Keir Hardie's bust was put in store for safe keeping while the repairs were carried out to the ceiling of the Lower Waiting Hall where it is normally displayed.

Following completion of the ceiling repairs during the summer recess the bust was brought back last week but it was found that adjustments would have to be made to the plinth—a new one had been made while the bust was away—before it could be redisplayed. It was decided to leave the bust by the security point in the Waiting Hall while the adjustments were made rather than return it to store.

The bust was restored to its usual position on 29 October 1990.
