§ Mr. MaudeAvailable information based on the annual survey of personal incomes is given in the tables. Information relates to tax units (single people and married couples) with income above the pay-as-you-earn threshold regardless of whether they are liable to income tax. I regret that it is not possible to provide a regional breakdown for years subsequent to 1987–88.
Information is available only for manufacturing industry where it is estimated that, in 1988, 13 per cent. of the work force was employed by businesses controlled or owned by companies incorporated overseas.
