What were the quantities and value of (a) mahogany wood, (b) satin wood, (c) tulip wood and (d) teak wood imported into the United Kingdom in each of the last five years; and from which countries they were imported.

Figures for tulip wood and satin wood are not available. Figures for imports of teak and mahogany by country are shown in the attached tables.

3. Figures for mahogany relate to sawn wood and logs of Acajou d'Afrique and mahogany (Swietenia), although these two types are only separately identified from 1988. Figures for Swietenia logs are not included in 1988 and 1989, as figures are not separately available.

4. The Timber Trade Federation has advised on the definitions and quality of the trade figures. In particular, it has pointed out that imports of mahogany from the Philippines should be treated as suspect.
