To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the progress towards achieving the free movement of goods within the EC.

Progress towards the completion of the single market continues at an excellent rate; 187 measures out of 282 in the Commission's White Paper programme (two thirds) have now been agreed. A more detailed analysis of these figures can be found in my Department's progress on Commission White Paper checklist which has been deposited in the House Library.
