Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many companies, distinguishing between financial services companies and other companies, have failed to file annual accounts(a) since 1986, (b) since 1987 and (c) since 1988.

Mr. Redwood

[holding answer 30 October 1990]: It is not possible to distinguish between financial services companies and other types. The following figures relate to all companies currently registered in England and Wales.

  • Latest accounts received for 1986 = 14,227
  • Latest accounts received for 1987 = 30,707
  • Latest accounts received for 1988 = 154,193.
