HL Deb 31 October 1990 vol 522 cc1896-7WA
Baroness Ewart-Biggs

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will outline Britain's balance of trade with Cambodia; set out total exports to, and imports from, Cambodia for the years 1989–90 and 1990–91; and to ask them what steps they are taking to promote trade with Cambodia.

Lord Hesketh

The latest figures are:

£ million
1988 1989 1990 1989
January-August January-August
Visible trade
United Kingdom Exports 0.32 0.53 0.23 0.41
United Kingdom Imports 0.05 0.22 0.02 0.09
United Kingdom Surplus 0.27 0.31 0.21 0.32

The Government are working actively with the other permanent members of the United Nations Security Council to promote a comprehensive political settlement in Cambodia as the best basis for restoring peace to that country. This would provide a sound foundation for the expansion of trade.
