Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what were the annual traffic flows across the Shard bridge in each of the past five years.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals he has received from Lancashire county council for a bridge at or near Shard bridge; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chope

The council has submitted statutory orders for a replacement bridge which require confirmation by my right hon. Friend. A public inquiry is to be held into an objection.

The council has asked for transport supplementary grant support next financial year towards the cost of the replacement bridge and has given it fifth priority in its list of bids for new schemes. A decision will be announced soon.
