§ Mr. CurryFoodstuffs imported duty-free into East Germany from eastern Europe during the transitional period following German unification must not exceed traditional trade flows and may be used only on the territory of the former German Democratic Republic. The Commission's "end-use relief" system of control is designed to ensure that these products do not leak into the rest of the EC. It requires permits specifying the "end use" of a product to be issued on import and allows customs authorities to make the necessary checks during processing and trading to monitor stated "end uses". Any other foodstuffs entering East Germany will be subject to normal Community duties and levies.
