HL Deb 24 October 1990 vol 522 c1518WA
Lord Shackleton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state the total expenditure on research supercomputing in the United Kingdom during 1989–90, and the projected figures for 1990–91; and whether they will compare this expenditure with that in Japan, the United States, Germany, France and Italy during the same periods.

Lord Cavendish of Furness

Recurrent expenditure on academic research supercomputing was £4.5 million in 1989–90 and is projected to be £4.6 million in 1990–91. The corresponding figures for capital expenditure are £1.8 million and £0.5 million. The Government do not have the data requested on comparative international expenditure.
