§ Ms. QuinTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what additional resources have been made available to the Northumbria probation service as a result of the extra demand caused by the dispersal of prisoners following events at Strangeways prison in April 1990.
§ Mr. John PattenChief probation officers in the north of England, including Northumbria, were notified in July of action they should take to deal with this problem. They were advised that if the extra necessary resources could not be found locally, the Home Office would consider the funding of temporary additions to staffing levels. No such applications have been received.
