HC Deb 23 October 1990 vol 178 cc128-9W
Mr. Mills

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has yet established an independent body to monitor the welfare of detainees and to advise on the running of Harmondsworth detention centre, as recommended by Her Majesty's chief inspector of prisons.

Mr. Waddington

I have appointed 11 members to this body, which is to be known as the Harmondsworth visiting committee. Its inaugural meeting took place on 25 September 1990. I am confident that the committee is well equipped to represent the interests of detainees at Harmondsworth.
