HC Deb 23 October 1990 vol 178 c126W
Mr. Maxwell-Hyslop

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish in theOfficial Report the tables given in paragraphs 45 and 46 of the Home Office memorandum submitted to the Home Affairs Committee in connection with its report intituled "Redistribution of Seats" (second report Session 1986–87), revised in respect of the latest available figures, showing the total numbers of electors in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Mrs. Rumbold

The information requested, based on figures for the 1990 electorate, is given in the tables. The tables illustrate two different ways in which equal standards of parliamentary representation throughout the United Kingdom might be achieved, by the introduction of a single electoral quota for the United Kingdom. Table 1 is based on a total of 650 seats; table 2 is based on a total of 799 seats, maintaining the present number of seats in Scotland.
