To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will seek to amend the Companies Acts to require all public limited companies to publish a cash flow statement.

Mr. Redwood

No. In July 1990, the Accounting Standards Committee issued an exposure draft proposing that the statement of source and applications of funds which is presently required by "Statement of Standard Accounting Practice 10" should be replaced by a statement of cash flow. I understand that the Accounting Standards Board will be taking up this issue when the period allowed for comment on the exposure draft has expired.
