To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the current guidelines in Romania for the adoption of children by applicants from the United Kingdom, including the guidelines for the adoption of mentally handicapped children.

I am arranging for a translation of the relevant Romanian Act of Parliament to be placed in the Library of the House.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what advice he has given to the Romanian health authorities concerning the trials of a drug invented by Mr. David Hughes with children suffering from AIDS in Colentia hospital, Bucharest.

We have passed on to the Romanian authorities information received from British medical experts about Mr. Hughes' background and the drug that he has been testing.
