HC Deb 22 October 1990 vol 178 c50W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the Government's current attitude towards the multi-fibre arrangement and detail the preparatory discussions that have been held with textile organisations regarding the arrangement.

Mr. Sainsbury

The Government continue to support the EC's position that the MFA should be phased out, after its latest extension expires next year, as part of the integration of textiles and clothing into GATT on the basis of strengthened rules and disciplines. Ministers and officials frequently meet representatives of the textiles and clothing industry to discuss the negotiations.
