HC Deb 22 October 1990 vol 178 cc6-7W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what Budget surplus or deficit he anticipates for 1990–91; what he expects the inflation rate to be at the turn of the year; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maples

It is clear that policy is now reducing inflationary pressures in the economy. The prospect is for a substantial reduction in inflation over the coming year. My right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer will publish revised forecasts of inflation and of the public finances in the autumn statement.
