HC Deb 22 October 1990 vol 178 c38W
Mr. Atkinson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to review section 28 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) to take account of the special responsibilities of maritime district councils in exercising their duties under the Coast Protection Act 1949; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

No. While I am aware of a number of cases where the interests of nature conservation have seemed at variance with the need for coastal protection under the Coast Protection Act 1949. I am pleased to be able to report that these are generally resolved by agreement between the parties involved.
