§ Mr. CurryThe Department is not funding any work on the production of genetically engineered pigs. However, we are aware that basic research in this area is being conducted in a number of laboratories around the world and the results are being closely monitored. The Department is responsible for ensuring that the same high standards of welfare apply to all farm animals, regardless of their origin.
