HC Deb 15 October 1990 vol 177 c748W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the approach of the Falkland Islands Government to the Japanese Government over fishing in the south Atlantic.

Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he is making about squid fishing and related fishing matters in the south Atlantic, to the Governments of Korea and Japan, as a result of the recent Falkland Islands Government delegation to Tokyo.

Mr. Garel-Jones

Following a visit by a Falkland Islands Government (FIG) delegation to Tokyo to meet far eastern fishing associations, we reinforced to the Japanese and Korean authorities the delegation's message abut the importance of fisheries conservation in the south west Atlantic. Such Government to Government contacts are properly a matter for Her Majesty's Government rather than FIG, although the latter are fully consulted about such contacts.
