§ Mr. MacleanAlthough MAFF veterinary officers can and do work closely with local authorities in this area, enforcement of legislation on unfit meat is the local authorities' responsibility and questions on numbers of inquiries must therefore be addressed to them. I am, nevertheless, aware that there is concern over allegations of illegal trade in unfit meat and we have instituted a full review of the existing controls to see if any improvements can be made, with particular attention to collection of casualty stock from farms.
