§ Mr. MacleanFlocks of pullets—layer replacements—which are infected with salmonella enteritidis or salmonella typhimurium are permitted in certain circumstances to be treated with antibiotics and a competitive exclusion product as an alternative to slaughter. These arrangements are being conducted on a trial basis at present to determine the effectiveness of the treatment. The possibility of further adaptation of the salmonella control policy is being kept under review.
