§ Mr. Heathcoat-AmoryLocal authorities which designate smoke control areas under the Clean Air Acts are eligible for Exchequer grant of 40 per cent. of the cost of adapting heating and cooking appliances to burn fuel smokelessly. Since 1979–80, grants totalling more than £15 million have been awarded to local authorities in England and Wales.
