HC Deb 21 November 1990 vol 181 cc160-1W
35. Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans his Department has to improve the condition of the economy and manufacturing industry in Renfrewshire.

Mr. Lang

The Scottish Office continues to support economic development in Renfrewshire through the provision of financial assistance towards capital investment which creates or maintains employment, through the attraction of inward investment to the area, through its involvement in the Ferguslie Park partnership and through its support, through the SDA, for the Inverclyde initiative and a number of other local initiatives. In addition, Inverclyde benefits from enterprise zone status. For the future, the Renfrewshire local enterprise company will pursue economic development and training proposals within the framework of Scottish Enterprise.
