§ Mr. LewisTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give a summary of the costs to be met by(a) his Department in relation to the incident at Her Majesty's prison Strangeways, Manchester earlier in the current year and (b) those costs which will fall on the Greater Manchester police authority.
§ Mrs. RumboldThe costs incurred to 31 October 1990 as a result of the incident at Her Majesty's prison Manchester are £4.1 million.
Of this sum, £3.55 million will be borne by the Home Office and £0.55 million by the Greater Manchester police authority.
