§ Mr. FallonProvision for local authority spending on school crossing patrols and road safety is not separately earmarked within annual local authority grant settlements, although it is taken into account in determining those settlements and their allocation between the relevant services for grant distribution purposes. It is then for each local authority to decide, within the overall resources available to it, what level of spending is appropriate in its circumstances to ensure adequate traffic patrol and crossing services.
