§ Mr. EggarMinisters have received a small number of letters from individuals expressing concern about the numeracy standards of school leavers. The proportion of candidates achieving grades A to C in GCSE mathematics in 1990 rose by 2.1 per cent. to 40.2 per cent. compared with 1989.
