HC Deb 14 November 1990 vol 180 c178W
Mr. Dunnachie

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the successful prosecution by the Health and Safety Executive at Oxford Crown court of Medical X-Ray Supplies, Kingsbury, north London, for supply of a defective machine which subjected patients to excessive radiation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dorrell

On 22 October 1990 Medical X-Ray Supplies Ltd. was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive and fined a total of £6,000 at Oxford Crown court for its failure to carry out a critical examination of breast screening X-ray equipment supplied to a private health screening company and installed in a mobile health screening unit between January 1988 and May 1989.

Although the radiation dosages given by the defective machine were greater than normal for that machine, the additional dosage was comparatively small and risks to the health of the women concerned were minimal.
